I personally break up my workouts. It gives me greater results than I would by grouping it all together. I used to be in the habit of doing my running and walking my dog in a row, both providing some level of workout depending on how hard I pushed myself. But it seemed like I was always plateauing off. They say that you should in general terms break your workouts apart into smaller elements throughout the day.
So while I still have longer workouts of both types, I use them during separate times of the day. I run in the morning, which actually gets your metabolism going for the rest of the day, who knew right, I thought before that was what breakfast was supposed to do. But yes, it actually gets your metabolism going too. Then I walk my dog later in the evenings. I’ve found that this actually promotes easier maintenance, I feel less tired in general, and when I’m trying to lose a few pounds, they come off a lot easier than they would have before. So this is my lesson in life, just break it apart a little. It gives your body time to recover in between rather than just stopping or slowing down. After all, in any given workout, you get your best burning in the first 30 minutes or so.
