Side Effects of CLA

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Many diet pills now contain CLA or Conjugated linoleic acid, which when found in normal foods can be harmless.  However with the increased amounts of CLA in the diet pills, it can cause serious health issues.  CLA can increase the fat stored in your liver which can lead to permanent damage of the liver or liver failure.  It also increases the resistance to insulin made in your body.  This can lead to diabetes or a metabolic disease.

CLA increases the rates of oxidative stress, which is when your body is unable to detoxify your blood.  There have been studies done which also show that CLA increases gallstone formation, increased risk for heart failure and heart problems, and the impairment of blood vessels.  CLA is not approved by the FDA, and is still being heavily researched.  There have not been many human clinical trials done on CLA due to the many adverse effects that have shown up in the research studies done on mice and rats.

Of the few human clinical studies that have been done most of the participants have had adverse reactions to CLA.  Although there are many side effects of CLA there have been no noted or reported drug interactions.

Weight Loss Benefits Of Avocados

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

If you can only eat one food on earth, choose the avocado.  It’s not necessarily the best for weight loss, but it is at the same time in moderation.  But in terms of pure content, the avocado is the most complete of any food I’ve ever seen before.  Basically, it has all the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants of a fruit, vegetable, a superfruit in general.  So that definitely works in your favor.

But in addition to that, it is one of the few plant based elements that actually comes with the good fats you need in your diet as well providing that greater balance.  Unfortunately, you do actually need good fats to lose weight, making it understandably more complicated and confusing to say the least.  But avocados obviously provide all of these things you need.  With everything packed in there, unfortunately it is not considered a negative calorie food.

So you do have to count it in there with everything else.  But at the same point in time with the nutritional value already provided, not being a negative calorie food is realistically not a horrible thing.  You don’t want to eat too many with a normal diet that can include other foods of course.  But it’s a fine balance.
